Guided Walks with Lucy - a Coast & Country Circular Walk for Autumn

This is a circular walk of 3.5 miles combining the South West Coast Path National Trail with less-walked country routes through farmland and woods. An easy 2.5 hours.

You will need suitable clothing and footwear for rugged terrain and all weathers, a water bottle (1 litre is recommended) and a rucksack or other suitable carrier.

Starting from the delightful harbour village of Mevagissey, we walk on the Coast Path on roads and rugged terrain via Portmellon and Chapel Point.

This area was used as a location for filming a WWII public information film.

Turning inland through a shallow valley alongside a small stream, we make our way towards the remote cottage at Old Walls

A short ascent on a track brings us up to Bodruggan Barton – a splendid courtyard of ancient barns.

After a short section of quiet lane we turn onto an old trackway and descend to the little bridge and mill buildings at Galowras Mill. This former busy corn mill is now a home surrounded woodland and a variety of wildlife from dragonflies to deer.

This section of the walk being through woodland allows for ample opportunity to enjoy the changing colours of the leaves and, if we’re lucky, for spotting squirrels busily hoarding acorns and other seasonal goodies.

The walk now turns seaward again, through meadowland with distant views down over the little cove of Portmellon.

At the top of a gentle slope, we enter the grounds of Penwarne Manor, a 17th century Cornish longhouse, now lovingly restored by its current owners.

A last half mile of mixed road and farmland walking gives us an unexpected long range view up the coast to the north, then down to the harbour again at the end of our exploration.

Mevagissey has many cafes, restaurants and pubs for you to enjoy.

Lucy is an experienced walk leader and volunteer rep for the South West Coast Path Association for Mevagissey to Polperro sections of the National Trail. On offer is a selection of dates and routes to add depth and local knowledge to your walk, to avoid lone walking or as a taster/confidence builder. Lucy offers regular public walks from 1.5-6 miles and one to four hours, as well as catering for private groups. Lucy is delighted to offer dates and times to suit you wherever possible – just ask!
